Welcome to Store Front #2 (SF2) Test Drive!

Because template kit SF2 is designed to make real calls to the PayPal interface, the buttons on the pages that follow have been set to display information about the PayPal interface rather than actually calling it (i.e., you can't actually order anything from this test drive).

To use a PayPal shopping cart, you must first set up a verified PayPal account. This is so that you can transfer funds from PayPal to your checking account. There is no monthly fee for a PayPal setup. PayPal charges a small fee for each purchase.

You can place as many or as few items on each page of your site as you wish. One component of the template kit is a text file called ITEM.TXT. It is a snippet of code that includes spaces for a product picture, a product description, an "Add to Cart" button, and a "View Cart" button. All of the code you need to make the buttons work is in place but you'll need to edit it (e.g., you'll need to change "ITEM NAME" to the actual product name, "ITEM PRICE" to the actual price, etc. You'll make one copy of ITEM.TXT for each product you sell and then "cut and paste" these into the appropriate pages.

When the site visitor clicks on an "Add to Cart" button, the item is added to the PayPal shopping cart. When the visitor clicks on the "View Cart" button, the PayPal shopping cart is displayed. It includes buttons for updating the cart's contents and for proceeding to the checkout counter. When the visitor completes the checkout process, he or she is returned to an order confirmation page on your site. When he or she cancels the checkout process, he or she is returned to an order cancellation page on your site.

The SF2 template provides space for a Home page, a Contact page, and eight other pages. When a site visitor sends a message via the Contact page, he or she is provided a confirmation screen and a copy of the message sent.

NOTE: This template is intended for sites that carry a fairly small number of products. If you have many products (hundreds or thousands) or you perform very frequent updates, you may wish to consider a database-driven site (for example, the Conners Publications site at www.music-usa.org/conners. A site of that kind -- also a Benchmark design -- can be done using this template as a point of departure. The Conners site uses a MySQL database and PHP programs to access it. It also provides data entry forms to facilitate updates by the Conners staff.
