Website Design Policies & Prices

BENCHMARK DESIGNS WEB SITES. We provide limited additional services. Our estimates are based on $15.00 per half hour for design time. If you change specifications after we present our initial estimate, our fee may need to be adjusted accordingly. Otherwise, your cost will be at or below our estimate. Guaranteed. When we complete your new web site, we'll send you an e-mail bill that contains a link to our secure Checkout page. You can either pay online via PayPal or send a check. If you're dissatisfied with the design, it will cost you nothing.

IF YOUR PAGES ARE SMALL AND UNCOMPLICATED and you're not concerned about the site's domain name, you may already have usable home page space reserved through your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

IF YOU HAVE A LIMITED BUDGET and you're familiar with HTML editing, you might want to try our Make a Template page. There, you can determine your own color scheme, fonts, and menu items and generate a free template. If you need some guidance with HTML editing, you might want to try our Buy a Template page. There, you can buy a template kit for $14.95.

IF YOU DON'T HAVE WEB SPACE OF YOUR OWN, we can sub-lease disk space for sites we maintain at a rate of $15.00 per year per 10MB of disk space. For musicians, we can place your site at www.music-usa.org/yourname. For others, we can place your site at www.benchmarkwebsites.com/yourname.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE US TO PROVIDE BOTH WEB SPACE AND A UNIQUE DOMAIN NAME, (www.yourcompany.com), we can sub-lease disk space at $15.00 per 10MB per year and register your domain name for $15.00 per year (in two-year increments). The Software Workshop, Inc. charges us an additional $5.00 per month ($60.00 per year) to maintain unique domain links, so the entire cost for a 10MB site with a unique domain name is $90.00 per year ($15.00 registration + $15.00 disk space + $60.00 link maintenance). Note that the registration and link maintenance fees don't increase with additional disk space.

Pricing Guidelines

  • Generally, the prices listed below are high-end "ballpark" estimates. The actual cost will be based on labor at $15.00 per half hour. The amount of time a particular item takes depends upon size and complexity (e.g., how many headings, tables, charts, pictures, and paragraphs there are in a page, whether significant editing of text is involved, etc.).
  • Although we do database applications and Flash presentations, they are not covered by this worksheet. They are very specialized and involve unique requirements.
  • Benchmark cannot produce a firm estimate before the layout concept is determined and the client has provided all content - text, photographs, etc. A firm estimate will list the product components that Benchmark will produce and a maximum price.
  • Any changes to the layout concept or the content that are requested by the client may affect the final price.
Layout Concept (Template) Options
OPTION DESCRIPTION PRICE
1 Completely new template: Before Benchmark begins the design process, the client must provide a concept for the template - color scheme, font(s), menu location, number of menu items - or agree to leave the concept up to a Benchmark designer. In either case, Benchmark will present a template to the client for approval before proceeding with content editing. $45.00
2 Modified version of an existing Benchmark template: In general, an existing Benchmark template can serve as a point of departure for a design. This significantly reduces labor. $15.00
3 Unmodified version of an existing Benchmark template: Before starting, the client selects an existing Benchmark template, so no template design labor is required. $0.00

IF YOU NEED SOMETHING MORE ELABORATE (e.g., a PHP4 application with data entry forms, an extensive product line, and a MySQL database), we can do the design and you can decide where you want to place it. We highly recommend The Software Workshop, Inc. BENCHMARK leases space for our sites from them. They support many advanced features - most of which they provide at no additional cost (although there is an extra charge for maintaining a database). They offer four service levels for web server space:
